that is because you ipad and iphone use icloud and your Windows XP computer is not compatible with it.

I struggled with this for weeks, using every online solution. Finally I decided to try something new - On the info page of itunes, check do not sync events older than 30 days (probably could have used other dates as well. Everything worked fine!

If you have a 64 bit system, nothing you do will work
