I need to surpervise and manage about 100 ipads. I know that configurator is limited to 30 connection at a single time, but can I use one laptop with one instance of configurator to manage over 100 as long as they are only connected 30 at a time? Or is there some limit of total supervised devices configurator can handle?

Don't forget that with configurator you need to physically plug in each iPad. On the other hand, with Profile Manager from OS X Server updates can be pushed over the internet and each iPad will automatically update itself the next time it's connected to the internet.
Given how cheap OS X Server is it might be worth experimenting with it.

Apple Configurator can manage thousands of devices. You are correct in that it will only connect 30 iPads at a time. But if you wanted, you could manage thousands with a single computer running Apple Configurator (but I wouldn't recommend that 🙂 ). You will be just fine managing your 100 supervised iPads.

I need to be able to pull back codes, so configurator is the only thing i know of that will do that. Looks like that may chanfge in IOS7
Thanks....this is what I thought too. The wording Apple uses is a bit vague. I had tried it with 47, so I knew i could do more than 30 but didnt know if there was some other hard limit.
Using one laptop means I dfon't have to split up the VPP code sheets and I can just create groups and apply apps that way. Since ourt lower school has overlap in the apps they use from grade to grade, using one laptop will make life alot easier for me!
Yes I use one laptop for several Ipad carts. Since all the ipads are configed alike, just make sure when you snyc the apps that you need,you check the apps for each cart. IE math, science, history...

I am going to use groups to apply apps to indivudual carts.
Just yesterday, I was able to restore and sync 60 devices at once through Configurator. I'm pretty sure that there is no software limit in the current version of Configurator.
You will, however, run into a physical limit of 127 devices connected through USB. This is how the USB 2.0 spec was written, though.

Oh, cool.... didn't know Configurator can finalyl access more than 30 iPads at a time. I'll have to try that next time I pull a batch in.
To second someone else's answer - I've got a few hundred ipads that are being managed with one Mac mini, so the limit for one Configurator install is probably waaaaay higher than any school district could afford!
