You have more than one partition in the hard drive. To install Windows, the hard drive must have one partition. Open Disk Utility and choose the hard drive at the top of the sidebar. Then, go to Partition tab and you will see a white bar with partitions. How many partitions do you see? You will also see them under the hard drive, in the sidebar.

You will have to delete the second partition, so copy the data of the second partition to the first one

Make a backup of your files with Time Machine > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427

Then, follow these steps:

1. Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting, and open Disk Utility.

2. Choose the hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.

3. Close Disk Utility, select the option to restore the backup and follow its steps.

4. Start in Mac OS X and install Windows using Boot Camp

After you erase the hard disk and you restore using your time machine backup , does it restore you computer to its original state?

Are there any risks in doing so that some data will be lost?

Also what I find confusing is this message that the disk must be formatted a single Mac Os Extended (journaled) volume whilst the disk was never partitioned in the first place.

I apologize for my ignorance of the matter and i await for some feedback

Thanks in advance
