I want to have regular text messages show up on my iPad. It seems to do this, I need to add the email address xxxxxxxxxx@txt.att.net. However, there is no way to receive the confirmation email??? I want to get the same text messages on my iPad that I get on my iPhone.

The iPad only does iMessaging (messaging between iOS devices). It does not do SMS, so many of the texts you get on the phone will not be available.
Thanks, Tom, but the issue is this: I can put in the txt address 12345678910@txt.att.net ...but then Apple wants me to click on the EMAIL and VERIFY the email address. Since this is a text only email address, I cannot access it.
ARGH! Have read 100 articles on the subject and none of them addresses this issue.

Not sure what you mean by a "text only" address, but you have to have a functioning email address assigned to iMessages for it to work.

I did. that's what I was responding to.
I don't think you can do what you want. The address you're asking about is for ATT's email to text gateway. There's no way to access that email directly. All it does is foward the email to your phone number as an SMS. If you're working off some set of instructions that says you can do this, perhaps if you posted a link, we could provide more help.
