Is there any benefit to backing up my Ipod touch to my computer instead of to icould? Also, if I backup my computer to an external hard drive,will my ipod touch backup file be on the external hard drive? Where is the backup file on my computer (what is it called)? Thanks.
iPod touch
iCloud should not be your complete backup solution. It is more of a syncing tool.

Your iPod backups will be here:
On a Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
On Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
On Windows Vista/7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync
Typically you should not need to navigate to them directly. iTunes will manage them for you.
