I pod classic 160Gb is frozen with clock, play & battery icons on screen. tried holding menu and select buttons with lock switch on and off.

my ipod classic 160GB is frozen with clock, play & battery icons on screen. the clock isn't moving and the screen light is on. tried holding the menu and select buttons down simultaneously with the lock switch in on and off settings. nothing. anyone know what else to try. my MacBook Pro is not reckognizing it when i's plugged in. yikes! little help?
