After much experience with creating an ebook with Pages, I disagree it would be the best method currently. I would suggest using iBooks Author. There is more support and robustness creating an ebook with iBooks Author than with Pages. iBooks Author's sole focus is to make an ebook. Pages is a word processor with many tasks and tools.

You just need to bear in mind that what you create with iBooks Author can only be read on an iPad, not on any other device, and there is no way to directly convert it to any other format.
