Trouble installing Intego Backup Assistant for LaCie external hard drive

Hello! I purchased a LaCie d2 USB3 Thunderbolt Series external hard drive and the software, Intego Backup Assistant, keeps shutting down on me when I click to find the source of the backup. The software was installed on my MacBook Pro when I setup the hard drive and when I click "find the source", the little beachball icon pops up, then the program closes and I get a message saying "Intego Backup Assistant has unexpectedly shut down". I really want to be able to properly use the software and I know I can probably manually copy things onto my hard drive but I want to do this right. The software never worked. I restarted the computer, deleted the application and reinstalled it and nothing is working. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.
