Cleaning my MacBook Pro

I’ve used Windex to clean my 2011 MacBook Pro numerous times. I’ve probably used it over 30 times to clean the screen, keyboard, and the outside of the MacBook (I'm a clean freak). The different methods I've cleaned my MacBook Pro with Windex are spraying the Windex directly onto the screen, keyboard, and outside. I've also used the method of spraying it onto a microfiber cloth and scrubbing everywhere.

My question is, how bad is this going to be for my MacBook Pro? Am I going to be seeing serious damage or issues later down the road? I wish I would've known how to clean the MacBook Pro in the first place. I'm extremely worried.

Any comments or past experiences will help. I really don't want the screen to be going bad or anything like that.

Thanks,

- Mark

PS. I know how to clean it now. I've read previous posts and see that all it really needs is some water on a microfiber cloth.

Water alone doesn't cut the human skin oils and other greasy residue.

Water is bad for the fact that it takes a long time to evaporate and can get inside the machine.

On the screen only I use iKlear

For the case and body I use a organic orange solvent like orange based adhesive floor remover

This is especially good at removing all those annoying stickers that come on Windows PC's, grease and grime etc. and it leaves the machine smelling orangy clean and oh so shiny new looking.

Dry polish with a clean soft dry cloth afterwards or it might be a bit too slippery.

Use a wooden toothpick and ear swab sticks to clean the tight spots and between the keys.

Holy... I just realized I wasn't even using Windex. The bottle says "Glass Plus," and I checked their website and it clearly states that there isn't any ammonia in their product. It also says that you're able to clean electronics with this liquid.

What a relief.

Thanks for all the input anyway guys. I appreciate it.

Which Windex? Windex has a product with the label ELECTRONICS on it which I use for the display. I spray it on a microfiber cloth and wipe the display holding the back. Then I take a large microfiber cloth and wipe the fine liquid particles off. The result is a perfectly clean display. This is NOT the ordinary household window cleaner Windex.

For the case and other parts I use a clean cloth dampened with ordinary household cleaner.

Ciao.

Does it say in lower case 'electronics' on it? Is there an image of a flat screen display (or TV) on the bottom of the container? Does it say that it is a 'NO RESIDUE' product?

I suspect we may be talking about two different items.

Ciao.

The product I am refering to does not have 'glass plus' written on it and comes in a container of 9.7 oz.

Not in all lower case letters. The "E" in electronics in capitalized.

Here's a link to the official Glass Plus website : http://www.glassplus.com

You'll be able to find everything there. I'll even provide you with this.

Q: What ingredients are in Glass Plus® products?
