I've just got an iPhone5 and have transferred my old number to the new phone. I see that the new phone only shows text messages received from the date I set it up, with old text messages just showing on the old one. I would like to transfer some of these messages over but I've not found any way of doing this. Is this possible?

Did you back up your old phone to itunes? That would put your messages on... restore from back up...

I was backing up to iCloud rather than iTunes and restored from there when I first got the new phone. This brought everytning over except these text messages. Subsequentrly I tried backing up the old phone to iTunes but this backup is not available to the new one.
Are these text messages perhaps different from the ones sent using iMessage, which might be backed up?

Why? What is new iPhone's iOS?
What IOS version is your old phone? If the version is lower than your current iphone 5, you will need to update the IOS on the old phone, then backup it. Then you can restore your 5 to the old phone backup.
Both phones are on the latest iOS. However the latest one for the old iPhone4 is 6.1.3 while that for the new iPhone5 is 6.1.4!
What happens when you try to restore? Any error/message?
Backup old phone in iTunes.
Restore new iPhone from old iPhone backup in iTunes.

It just doesn't show the backup of the old phone data so there's nothing to restore.
