Q: Messages - Facebook ID numbers instead of Names

Messages Facebook names are alternating between ID Numbers and Full Names.  I think this started happening after Airport Utility Update 6.3.1

but not absolutely sure.

It will cycle several times between the correct full name and the Facebook ID number from the Facebook Email address (eg. ****@chat.facebook.com) while the contact is signed in. Once the contact signs out the greyed out name will stay as it was when the contact signed out... ie as the correct name or the number...

Also the contact's picture disappears when the number is shown and reappears when the full name appears.

Anyone else seen this problem?

    Hi Ralph,

I'm sorry to say that you misread the linked post. The link only takes you to FBs "Report an issue" -page. So the problem is still there and FB hasn't in any way responded to the reports I've posted there, and probably not anyone elses either I suppose. Guess we'll just have to wait it out or get used to using the browser based chat, annoying as it may be.

    Best regards,

    Johnny.

    HI,

Sorry about that, I seem to have misunderstood what the person said (Or I may have the wrong thread)

    However I can't check as I don't have a Facebook Account.

    hi,

As it is reported to be happening in PC and Mac Apps it looks more like Facebook's issue.

    Thanks Ralph,

This is what we are waiting for. Confirmation that it is 100% faebook. I keep going to face book help but have not seen anything about this yet so they probably do not want to admit anything yet

Ok, does indeed look like a Facebook generated problem, but it still may be that Apple and other vendors may still need to play catchup so I think this thread should still remain active for the time being.

I'm not sure from the posts in this thread whether it has been reported to Facebook or not.  If someone has actually reported it can they please let me know and leave a link to that report.  If not I will open a Ticket with them and post the link for information.

    Hi,

Strangely sending a feedback message to Apple might prompt them to prompt Facebook

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html

It has worked when AIM have had issues in ichat in the past.

I use the iChat feedback page as the app is built on the iChat engine.

Enter full specs in the free text area (the version drops downs have always been behind the times)

    Hi,

I saw a thread that posted the link in this thread

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22610695#22610695

However I understand it is only a starting point and not a thread itself or a Ticket follow up spot.

(I don't have Facebook and posted something from another thread).

I sent a link to this discussion to a friend of mine who works at Facebook. He said that he had filed a ticket, but said that there wasn't a way for the public to monitor that ticket. If anyone knows of another way to report to Facebook, it would probably be helpful.

I've sent a couple of reports on their "Report an issue" page. And I've found two threads in FBs chat forum, where I have replied to the newest of them. I don't know where to get the tickets for my reports to FB, but if anyone can tell me I'd definetly link to them.

    Best regards,

    Johnny.

OK. I've done as suggested and opened a Report on Facebook and sent feedback to Apple. Let's see if they talk to each other....  I put the same information in both reports but I cannot get links so will update here if I hear anything.... fingers crossed...

This is the text that I sent to Facebook and Apple.....

" I have opened a report on Apple Support because of a problem with Mac Messages used with Facebook Chat ID's. During that discussion the general impression is that this problem started with a change in Facebook somewhere. Problem is that Facebook ID's keep alternating with Real Names and the contact's picture disappears when the number is shown and reappears when the full name appears. This has also been reported on Linux applications. Link to the Apple Thread FYI is https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5191477?start=0&tstart=0 .... Would appreciate some help on this please "
