Integrate VoiceOver directly into an app?

This is an iOS developer query:

Is it possible to integrate the VoiceOver function from iOS into an app, without requiring the user to switch on Accessibility? This would be for an international science dictionary, i.e. the user would tap a speaker icon to hear the scientific term and its description in English (irrespective of their iPhone's own language settings too).

Thanks

iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1

If the built-in read aloud doesn't work for your needs, you'd need to record your own audio snippets and attach them to a button, etc, that works with your app's flow/UI.

If you want to use iOS's VO, then you need to rely on the user enabling Settings/Accessibility.
