Hotmail account not syncing: constantly "checking for mail"

Hello everyone,

I have several email accounts set up on my phone, primarily POP accounts, but one hotmail/outlook one. Over the last week or so, have discovered hotmail account is not retrieving mail. It sits at "checking for mail" perpetually and can't send either. I know there's email there ad I can see it on web.

Have tried: deactivating account in settings, then reacting sting it; removing account from phone, then setting it up from scratch (have tried both 'hotmail' button for new account and 'exchange'. Both seem to connect okay but then get stuck as mentioned.

POP accounts, and a gmail one, working fine.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried restarting, resetting, and restoring the device?

Restarting shuts down the mail app.

Resetting, in this case, refers to both the device and your network settings. To reset the network settings try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

To reset your device hold down the power and home buttons until you see an Apple Logo.

Restoring is the last step, as it can cause data loss. Before attempting to restore, make sure you've got a current backup and have exhausted all other alternatives. Don't forget to check to see if hotmail has changed their settings or have some troubleshooting steps for you.
