Jul 25, 2013 7:06 AM in response to catherineg1234by Demo,I don't know why the phone would be telling you that the iPad isn't supported for the personal hotspot. You are just trying to connect a WiFi device to a mobile hotspot. Reboot the iPad and try again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Jul 25, 2013 7:59 AM in response to catherineg1234by Demo,I don't have an iPhone or iPad that can has cellular but shouldn't the iPad be trying to connect the phone hotspot in Settings>Wifi? Shouldn't the phone network show up on there and that's how you connect the iPad to the phone hotspot?
its the iPad that should be recognizing the phone - correct?

Jul 25, 2013 8:20 AM in response to Demoby Phil0124,The way it should work is If you are sharng the internet from your Phone,
Then you turn on Hotspot on the Phone, wait a moment, and then from the iPad, either look in the Wifi section for the Phone's name, or if you want to do it through bluetooth, turn on bluetooth on both devices, and again search for the Phone in the list of Bluetooth Devices.
Once found in any of these cases you can tap on it to initate the connection. If you did it through Wifi you will then be asked for the password that was set in Hotspot configuration. If you did it through bluetooth, it should simply connect.

Jul 25, 2013 8:24 AM in response to Phil0124by Demo,That is in line with what I was saying. I realize that you can connect via WiFi and Bluetooth but my point was that you would have to join the "network" from the iPad itself and you are reinforcing that with what you are saying.
Maybe what I should have asked is "are you looking for the connection to the phone on the iPad in the WiFi or Bluetooth settings?"

Jul 25, 2013 8:43 AM in response to Phil0124by catherineg1234,Want to do this through Bluetooth.
The iPad recognizes my iPhone and car.
The iPhone only recognizes my car and my sat nav. A couple of times it has found the iPad but only very briefly and then it said it wasn't supported. As I said I have never had this trouble before and have often used Personal Hotspot with the iPad

Jul 25, 2013 8:59 AM in response to catherineg1234by Demo,Did you try rebooting the phone? That might help. Turn Bluetooth off on the Phone, reboot it and turn Bluetooth on again. Reboot by holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.

I didn't think that you were saying that I was wrong. I was sort of "thinking out loud" in a manner of speaking. That's all.
