Did software update [3134] break Airport?

Following the July 12 Software Update[3134] several Airport networks I manage broke. Here's short list of observations:

  • Extended Wi-Fi networks failed.
  • Airport base stations viewed in Aiport Utility 6.3 appeared and disappeared from the network like blinking Christmas tree lights.
  • Wirelessly connected OS X, iOS and Windows 7 devices connected to the network and were similarly dropped as base stations appeared and disappeared from the network diagram
  • Ethernet connected devices seemed less affected

Our solution: Create a new Wi-Fi network name for all Airport base stations downstream of the AEBS router. Left the AEBS router's network name as is.

Can't explain why this fix worked. But it did and it still does.
