    w@II, your response helped me get rid of the red #1 on the App Store icon; however, I still have a blank Updates screen.  I guess I need to wait for the next app update and see if my iPad mini App Store returns to normal.

    It's amazing to me that people expressing their frustration with this issue are causing themselves unnecessary aggravation. This issue hasn't broken your iPads! You can still use your iPads and even the apps that have available updates just like you always have. But if feel you must update your apps, just update them in iTunes on your computer and then sync your iPad with iTunes and your apps will be updated. If you don't have a computer, then go into App Store/Purchased and look for apps that have the Update button next to them and tap the update button. If none of the apps show an update button in spite of the badge, and if you still feel you must update your apps, then remove them all and redownload them. No one is aware of this issue more than Apple so has it ever occurred to some of you impatient folks that maybe the issue isn't so easily resolved? Seems like some people forget that these systems are designed by humans and therefore are not perfect. Expecting a system designed by humans to run flawlessly all the time just isn't realistic. So chill out folks! Your iPad's apps will still work in spite of not being able to update them at the moment.

    You're really missing the point. We've all paid for certain functionality with the iPad. It worked previously and now it's broken. Sure, the ways you listed are other ways, albeit more cumbersome, to update apps. The fact remains that the App Store is buggy and should be fixed. As for humans releasing code... There are also humans working in quality control to ensure these things get caught. I have set a pretty high bar for the Apple products I own. They can, and should, do better with software releases. There's been a pattern if questionable quality control on several releases over the past 12 months. Go right ahead and use your workarounds. I'll continue to push Apple to live up to the quality standards they once were so proud of.

    Good post...I couldn't agree more.   This problem started just two days ago...even the amazing Apple team takes just a little time to isolate an issue, determine what to do, program the solution, make sure the fix will work and not have any negative side effects, and then distribute it to the world.    No one is being injured or at risk of death or starvation because of it for goodness sake ...it's just a temporary glitch with the TOYS we are fortunate enough to have.  People need to get a life.   Now I need to get back to my iPad crossword puzzles.    LOL.

    I'm having the same peoblem with my iPad 3.  No error message just a blank updaate screen for apps.  I synced with my computer, even changed my password for my Apple ID, but nothing helps!!

    Not a huge issue but would like some sort of an acknowledgement that Apple is aware and working on it ... That's all! Stone walling and silence leads one to think ..1 they don't care or 2. They are unaware.

    We paid quite a bit of money for a premium brand. We can and do expect a certain level of customer support.

    Yes we can use our iStuff, and yes I would like to update my apps, not because of new features but for security updates. And no I can not be expected to connect my iPad tu my PC just to update apps, that is not what tablets are for. If this would be an isoleted failure, I could maybe see your point, but it has happend before and now we have 9 pages (as of this writing) of the same bug. A little communication from Apple's side as to why and how this keeps happening would be nice.

    It just dos not work.

    This recent problem with getting a blank screen when trying to update apps happened to me and this is how I fixed it on both my iPad2 and iPad mini:

     

    1. Double click the home button to get the dock at the bottom of the screen

    2. Hold your finger on the App Store icon in the dock until it wiggles

    3. Touch the minus sign in the corner of the app store icon to delete the icon from the dock - This does not delete the app - just removes it from open status

    4. Then go to the App Store icon on your home screen and update as you normally do and no more blank screen!

     

    I'm not sure if this is the procedure that will need to be followed every time to update from now on or if Apple will fix this glitch that just started happening. In the past you didn't have to take the app off the active dock before updating normally but for some reason now it seems you do. But also when you don't have any apps to update it no longer tells you all apps are up to date but just gives a blank screen. Something changed and Apple needs to correct this.

    Darn.  This didn't work for me.

    I called AppleCare and they told me to try a number of things, none of which worked.  They then told me to backup and restore, which I really don't want to do.  I have updated via my computer but hope that the obvious software issue gets resolved.

    AppleCare is currently not acknowledging that there is any problem that needs to be fixed with software.  They are telling me to bring my iPad into the store.

    And I believe you missed the point I was trying to make, and that is your iPad has not lost its ability to function, including the apps that have updates. My workarounds were intended for the folks who really felt the need to update their apps, despite the fact that those apps will still likely function without being updated. I noticed how so many people  seemed so put out because of this issue and in my opinion feel its so unnecessary to get so wound up it since peoples' iPads/apps will still do what they are supposed to do even if some apps can't be updated at the moment.

    Add me to the list of affected users.  Blank Updates screen on both Ipad3 and Ipad Mini.  Nothing fixes that but I was able to update all my apps through the Purchased. 

    One poster suggested a cause might be the use of different user IDs over the life of the device, but such was not the case for me.

    Signing out of my App Store account fixed it for me.  I signed out.  Went to the App Store and the 4 apps needing updating appeared and I updated them.  Signed back it to my App Store account and all was fixed.
