Cannot send message using the SMTP server settings

Hi there,

Hoping i've sent my question into the right area? i'm very new to this.

I'm having trouble working out why my mail has suddenly stopped me from sending emails. I can receive them no problems, but when i try to send it comes up with a message "cannot send message using the server..... ". The conncection doctor says everything is running ok, and my settings appear to be correct, there must be something i've missed?

It's been working perfectly for months! just a little confused

Thanks in advanced!

Hey kmcbabe,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities, and thanks for the question. When you get an alert that your message can’t be sent using a specific outgoing mail server, it usually signals that you're not using the required server, or the server may be configured incorrectly.

First, I'd check out the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

Mail (Mountain Lion): Verify your outgoing mail server

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11765

If that doesn't resolve the issue, read through this next article and follow the steps within. Even though it is for 10.5, many of the steps would still apply to what you're experiencing:

Mac OS X 10.5: Can receive email, but not send email

Take care,

David
