Mid 2013 Haswell Macbook Air Wifi problem: software or hardware?

I have the 11" Macbook Air (mid-June 2013, Haswell) and it has problems connecting to wifi. It reluctantly connects after searching for the network for a few minutes, but then it stays connected.

My question is: can anyone tell me if this is a hardware issue (in which case return/repair is necessary) or a software issue? If it can be fixed by an update, I don't mind waiting, but I don't want to waste my time if the machine is physically defective.

MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2013), iOS 6.1.4, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

It is more than like a hardware issue that Apple has just released a software update to try to fix. Whether it will or not is yet to be determined. So if you haven't install that most current update run Software Update found in the Apple Logo icon in the mene bar.
