Where is SCCS?

I have just got myself a new machine running 10.8.4. Most everything looks fine but I cannot seem to find SCCS. I assumed that a unix03-system would include this set of utilities, but I suppose that I am wrong. If not, any hints on where they are to be found?

Actually, I have been around to see version control systems go in and out of fashion. It may be git today, a later fad tomorrow. However, if there was any version control system that I assumed would be shipped with a unix-system, it would have been the one (ie. SCCS) that is actually mentioned in the specification.

So, may I assume that a helpful answer to my question would have been "SCCS is no longer shipped with Mac OS X", or is it still there, just hidden in some place that I cannot seem to find? I can easily find git and use it when I want and need to. I could also easily install my own set of SCCS utilities, but if they are already available, i would rather stick to those.

Sorry, but I can't answer that. The one and only time in my life I ever even saw SCCS was when I had to resurrect a long-dead project that used OpenWindows on SunOS (before Solaris). This was maybe in 1998. The MacOS X Public Beta wasn't released until over 2 years later. I have no idea if SCCS ever shipped with any version of OS X.

You should really try to use git. I was a CVS holdout for until a few months ago. I have to admit it is nice to be able to have both local and remote repositories. I can develop simultaneously on both Mavericks and Mountain Lion much more quickly and efficiently than I could with a single, remote CVS repository. I still miss the old CVS tree view but at least I have SCM in Xcode again.

Yes, I have memories of using SCCS and custom Makefile rules on various vintage UNIX platforms. But, like my youth, SCCS and similar revision control solutions have evolved.

If you are a devout terminal user, you can use Git in that paradigm, or there are GUI Git tools available. The Git mothership is here, though Apple provides a trailing version as part of Xcode.
