i was having the same problem

I was having that same problem, so i asked my dad (who's good with electronics) and he suggested using a Q-Tip dipped in rubbing alcohol on the part that plugs into the Ipod.. I tried it and it works brand new now

I got this message too, but in fact it both synched & charged just fine. The message went away when I turned off the passcode lock.
