1080i

Hi,

Is any here shooting with a camcorder capable of 1080i ? I think Sony has the only consumer model that sells for roughly $1300. Anyone have that model? how is the editing process working for you. Any extra hassles that I may not be aware of? I think it gobbles up hard drive space pretty quickly..

Hi(Bonjour)!

What is the Sony's model exactly?

1080i (or 1050i for europe) is the standard HDV for Sony.

HDV is handled by FCE by Apple intermediate codec conversion on capture.

This process needs a very fast Hard disk, preferably external and dedicated to video capture.

The captured clip represents 12-15 meg by second.

Visit http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=516733&tstart=50 to see some informations about HDV-DV comparaison.

Do a simple search in this forum with "HDV", "FX1" keywords.

Hi(Bonjour)!

HDV represent very BIG files on your hard drive.

Your problem seems to involve a "not enough space issue".

FCE cannot make the rendering if it don't have enough space.

How much free space appear in "about this" Macintosh HD ?

Generally, you can run toward big problems if you have less than 20% of "NON-FRAMENTED" free space on a computer. And that number if for word processing, web suring and basically just save small files.

We talk about HDV here...

Also, if you want to burd a DVD for this movie with iDVD., you must have 4 times the space needed by your source clip. (see about this infos... for FCE capture folder to know this amount).

Your mac have to "cache" big chunck of data on his hard drive when the burning process is involved.

May be it' the time for you to make a big clean up of your HD (play safe and burn those stuff on CD), or buy an external one...
