Q: Shared iCloud calendar colour keeps changing

This just started happening to me today (8/14/13).  One of my calendars changes from Green to Purple...I don't want it to be purple...this is VERY ANNOYING!  Apple...please fix this QUICKLY!

This crazy colour problem is happening to me as well, one category changes to blue and another changes to purple. Changing it back does nothing. - beginning from 14/08 like many who've posted here.

Very interested to see if Apple fix this ASAP...

So glad this is not just me. It started happening to me today too. It is making me crazy. I have OCD and live and breath by the color coding in my calendar. I need this fixed. We are a very busy house and have come to use this organizational tool. My kiddos know their colors and check their ipod calendars daily for the events.

This started for me today too. My main calendar is normally green. It suddenly turned purple on my iPhone, but then it turned back to green. The change in color gets reflected everywhere, including iCloud. I can change the color back manually but then it will change to purple again. When I make a change in iCal it switches color - green, purple, green, purple.  Weird.

Same here and just started this evening (8/14). The colors change without warning on only two of my calendars. Tried setting the color from all devices and through iCloud but they just switch back. The color coding is critical for me so I can see certain things at a glance.  Now my work and my kid's chedules look almost identical.  Real problem for me. PLEASE get this fixed. Very aggravating.

Yes, same thing. How do I change the color back to what I had?  One of my calendars went from blue to purple in the last day or so. Any help is appreciated.

So I am not the only one. Even when i change the colours back to the ones I usually use they keep flipping to other colours.  Apple need to sort this.

Same problem here.  Green calendar changes to Blue, Orange calendar changes to Purple.

Happening across three devices - brand new MacBook Air with latest Mountain Lion, brand new iPhone 5 with latest software and iPad2 with up to date software.

If I change the colours to where I want them on ANY of the devices, then they keep flipping to undesired colours on all three devices.

Started two days ago, no problems before that time.

Obviously a bug and obviously needs fixing.  Not looking for a sticking plaster or workaround!

same problem here, started on 14th aug 2013, default colour changing of my private deafult not shared calender to blue...before was orange...

I have the exact same problem since yesterday...hope it gets fixed soon!

Exactly same problem for me - started last night on 14th August - have calendar named work that is green that keeps switching to purple, and a calendar called home that is red that keeps switching to blue. Don't share any of them with anyone else - slightly annoying. Hopefully a patch soon.

I'm having excatly the same problem, the 'work' icloud calendar keeps changing from Green to Purple, I thought it was a conflict of colours from subscribed calendars but after removing all of them it still does it. :-/

I was having a similar problem where my calendar colours kept changing colours by itself.  What I did to fix this (it hasn't changed back for a couple of hours *fingers crossed*) was:

- restart my phone

- change around the events synced (settings>mail, contacts, calendars>sync)

- made the changes on icloud

I'm not sure if it was a combination of the above, but I think making the changes on iCloud was what fixed it.

I may have a solution, which is a refinement of suggestions by others. Note this is for people using a Mac synced to iCloud, and with iOS devices. It does mean re-arranging your colour scheme.

1. Take note of the the offending calendar in your list of calendars that is changing colour, as well as the colour it is changing from and to. My bet is there's only one that is changing, and it's changing from something to blue and back. If this is not the case, my instructions may not work for you and you should proceed at your own curiosity.
2. Turn OFF any iOS devices that sync to iCloud. This means OFF, not standby, i.e., hold the power button and slide the power off slider that will appear. This means all your iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone devices synced to iCloud.
3. Turn OFF any iOS devices that share a calendar with you if they have edit privileges on that calendar. Ideally, turn them off anyway. If you can't do this due to not having the device available, unshare the calendars for now.
4. Log out of iCloud on ALL browsers.
5. Shut down all PCs and all but one Mac if they are syncing to the iCloud calendar.
6. On the one Mac that is still on, go to your calendars and change the colour of your main "Home" calendar to blue. In my case I had renamed my Home calendar to be my own name. Basically, the primary calendar is the one you are looking for. I was using purple for that calendar, and blue for any hobby related calendars (I sync to 12 calendars) so I reversed the scheme, making home blue, and hobby purple.
7. Wait for the calendar to update.
8. Quit calendar application. Don't just close it, quit it (splat-Q)
9. Wait a minute for background processes to clean up.
10. Start calendar.
11. Wait for calendar to sync. Ensure colours stay the same.
12. Power on one iOS device.
13. Load Calendar on the iOS device, and wait for it to sync (note spinner at top). Don't let phone go to standby, touch the screen once in a while to keep the Calendar in the foreground. This is critical.
14. The Calendars should change to the new colours. If not, power down, wait, and repeat from step 12.
15. If Calendars still have not changed to new colours, manually edit them to match the Mac. This step should not be needed if you were patient in step 13.
16. Repeat steps 12 - 15 for each iOS device.
17. One at a time, power on each additional Mac, and PC and load Calendar, wait for refresh. Colours should switch to the new scheme.
18. Sign into iCloud and look at your calendar. Again wait for update. This one took a while for me.

This takes patience, waiting for the refresh on each device. It took nearly 8 minutes on my iPhone, but it has remained stable now for 15 hours.

Windows users could adapt this method using iCloud as the first device to change colours on.

I believe the key to this working is to accept that your "main" calendar is to be blue, changing the colour of any previously blue calendars to whatever the colour of your main calendar is now.

This may not work for all... but it worked for me... best of luck!

Something obviously happened yesterday for so many of us to be affected all of a sudden on the same day. I read last night that icloud.com has changed to show icons more like we will get in ios7, though haven't logged on to see for myself yet and don't know if there are any functional changes. Could this be the cause or just a coincidence??
