My phone reset when I connect to iTunes

So here's the gist of what happened.

-A few weeks back I accidentally installed a configuration to my iPhone via Apple Configurator, I went a few weeks with it and it didn't cause much problems other than I had to keep it on manage music manually.

-on a whim i decided to back up the phone and factory reset it to remove the configuration.

-I backed up my iPhone 5 to iTunes

-did a factory reset

-now iTunes will not connect to the iPhone but other programs like dropbox and iPhoto will

-I reset the phone using Apple Configurator to Factory settings and I get the phone up and running (without my backup installed)

-when I open iTunes and it tries to connect to the iPhone is causes the iPhone to turn off and restart as if I reset it again. I've already set up the phone a few times.

-If I don't connect the iTunes the phone works just fine. When I do connect I have to start all over again.
