poor product life

would i be right in saying that any product of apple has an effective life of only 5 years as any unserviceabilities on the product exceeding 5 years of production cannot be effectively repaired.

in my case i have a 7 year old i pod classic 30 gb which is serviceable in every way and only for want of a battery replacement is becoming unusable.

when contacting apple customer care , their standard response was that the product is vintage and no replacement is possible.

all i wanted was a replacement of battery and not the whole unit.

why this environmentally careless attitude by apple????

iPod classic, Mac OS X (10.7)
