Will Microsoft Office 2008 work on my 2013 Macbook air...?

So I have the new Macbook Air and so far haven't had any luck installing Microsoft Office 2008 on it. Just wondering if it will work or if I need to buy a newer version of Microsoft Office...?

MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Office 2008 is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion and with your Mac. What error do you see? If you see an error telling you that it's not from the Mac App Store or an identified developer, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290
