iPhone 3GS will not receive text messages

This is one seriously puzzling issue....

iMessage:
I can send AND receive iMessages, with and without pictures. No problems here at all.

MMS Media Messages
I can send AND receive MMS Media Messages. Pictures come through and send just fine.

SMS Basic Text Messages:
I can send SMS text messages but I cannot receive SMS text messages

What makes this really strange is I can send text messages to myself and they receive. Any other texts coming from other phones do not receive, however I can send texts to those phones all day and they go through just fine.

The carrier has confirmed everything is ok on their end and they're saying this is an issue with the iPhone itself. Is there anything you guys know of that could be causing this? I've done a master reset twice and still have the same issue. Any help or ideas would be beyond appreciation. Thanks!

If you still can't send or receive SMS or MMS messages

See the iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant.

Verify that every phone number in your contacts list includes an area code.

When sending to existing contacts, ensure that your contacts include the full phone number, and not just the information needed to dial locally.

If you have recently ported your number from another carrier, please contact your current carrier to verify that the porting process has completed successfully.
