I am trying to sync my iphone to my new iMac. When I try to sync the music, it gives some message about deleting all the songs from the phone. What gives? I am a first time imac user. HELP!!!!!
An iOS device can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. The best practice for you to follow now is to transfer all your personal data from your old computer to your new one using one of the methods in one of these KB articles:

Then you can sync your iPhone to the new computer. The contents of the iPhone will be erased and replaced with the "new" content from the new computer.
Before you bought your iMac, where you synced music to iPhone from? iTunes always sync its music to iPhone, and not the contrary. So, since the library of iTunes is the music you have to refer to when syncing iPhone, you have to add in the new iTunes of the new iMac your old music, your old library that you had previously synced to your iPhone. Then you will able to sync this new library (with also old music) to iPhone from this new iTunes, from the new iMac.
In the meantime you can also disable the syncing of the music:
Preferences > Devices > uncheck the box "Prevent iPod.. . . ." (to disable the automatic syncing)
connect iPhone and in the Music"window" of the view of iPhone uncheck the first box " (to disable the sync of music with this iPhone)
If the computer has ever been synced with any other computer before the new Mac, the phone will need to be erased and resynced with the new machine. An iOS device can only sync with one computer at a time. If you use multiple computers to manage your content, try enabling the "Manually manage music and videos" from the summary page in iTunes that appears after connecting the phone. You will need to drag and drop content after selecting this however.
Follow the steps given here to get your iPhone synced to your new computer without data loss...
What about any music (if any) that is not already on the iPhone? The OP still needs to transfer that to the new Mac, plus all the other personal data that is on the original computer.

Yes, I know about that KB article, but the OP might not. In fact that is one of the articles I posted a link to. The OP needs to get all their personal data from the old computer to the new Mac.
