ReadyNAS AFP Server not showing in finder

In my attempt to self-educate on network admin I installed OS X Server with the intent to use it to manage my ReadyNAS NV + 2. Before I installed OS X Server I had regular Time Machine back ups from the last month saved on my ReadyNAS and all was right with the world. The moment I started setting up OS X Server I began to have problems. I can only assume it was because I wasn't doing it correctly but in any event the end result is I had server installed and acting as my network management tool but where I used to have three icons for my ReadyNAS visible in Finder, I now only have two. The one that's missing is my AFP. I can type in a command to open it but it doesn't stay visible and Time Machine still can't see it. I have the main ReadyNAS(?) and the CIFS formatted portion. I also no longer have my Time Machine backups. I believe they are still there but Time Machine can't locate them and so it asks me if I want to start a new backup, which, since not much had really changed in my files I decided to do it. I selected ReadyNAS as my backup drive (ReadyNAS itself is still available as an option in Time Machine) and let it go. I came back a while later seeing that the backup window reflected the time remaining for backup to be 5 more seconds with only a few megs left to go. I thought it would be done soon but I left and came back to find the same 5 seconds remaining message and my total data backed up and remaining backup data had both increased considerably. I concluded that this was possibly caused by an error in the backup process so I reattempted the backup with the same results. I have photos, video and pics all stored on my ReadyNAS and I have no way to back them up somewhere else and re-format otherwise that would be something I would consider doing.

So to sum up my question is:

1. If anyone knows if it's possible to use Mac OS X Server to manage the ReadyNAS instead of its using its native web interface, any input would be much appreciated.

2. How can I get my ReadyNAS AFP to show in finder again?

3. Would it almost be a better idea to get another external hard drive, transfer my server files to my internal iMac drive and the external drive and re-format/setup my ReadyNAS just so I don't have to mess with it and so I can set it up to work with OS X Server?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Ok, well I got the ReadyNAS AFP to populate in finder again. I had to update the ReadyNAS firmware and that worked. Now I have a different problem. I have a time machine backup that is on my ReadyNAS and TM doesn't recognize it's there. I have 1 TB of space allotted for Time Machine backups and TM is only showing 300 GB out of 1 TB available. There is a backup there from before that I would like to delete or even recover but I can't seem to get it to show up in finder.

Any ideas?
