I've only had this lovely package for 6 days and now it locks up "retoring windows layout" , yes indeed, it is looking more like Windows,can't wait for it to show up on my credit card in a couple of weeks.

You need to trash your FCP Layouts Folder.
Follow these instructionsand you should be good to go,

I tried it four times, no change, hangs at the same screen.
Did you empty the trash?
Create a new user account and launch FCP from it.

Same problem...no longer loads, always locks at the same screen.
You need to bring your computer to a tech to be checked out first hand. Also a remimder that you have 90 days Apple telephone support for FCP.

Just delete the Layouts folder and also this file
com.apple.FinalCut.plist
it is located here Computer/HD/Users/User_name/Library/Preferences
My problem started after installing new AU audio plugins. The problem this is a temporary fix as will you need to repeat this procedure everytime you start FCP until you find the source of the problem and deal with it. Let me know.

Unfortunately the problem still exists. Found this thread because I just ran into this problem. Been using FCPX since it was launched. Never had this problem. The suggestions don't work for me.
Download Pref. Manager from www.digitalrebellion.com.
When you run it, de-select all and only select FCX. Works wonders...
You notice how there is no response to this last post.

I tried removing the prefs manually prior to this - it still got hung on the restore window.
I ran this app once, boom, it's back to normal!!
