Gmail and Icloud backup
I have a gmail account. How can I use my icloud account to backup that email to icloud?

Set your GMail account to forward all incoming emails to your iCloud account. (You should probably set it to retain the messages at GMail as well).
You may be able to set up a Rule separating them into a different folder, depending on whether they show as being addressed to GMail or to iCloud, you will have to experiment on that one.
