Canon MG having continuous pause errors

So I am running 10.8.4 on a macbook pro. I have a Canon MG 5320 printer that is consistently pausing after each print job and my wife is ready to string me up by my toes because "its my fault." 🙂 I have looked into drivers, printer firmware, and device driver updates wih no success. All are up to date as of Jul 28. I pulled the error log and it repetitively refers the following:

E [28/Jul/2013:11:22:11 -0400] Unknown directive BrowseAllow on line 23 of /private/etc/cups/cupsd.conf.

Any guidance towards a fix?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), Canon MG 5320 w/ Drivers 2.12 vers.

Typically when you see this message (Unknown directive BrowseAllow on line # of cupsd.conf),
the database inside the Mac isn't recognizing that the printer is compatible.

  1. Disconnect the printer and run Apple Software Update.
Even if it doesn't find any updates, it will update the compatibility list.
  2. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Print & Scan. Hold down the Control key as you click in the list at the left, and choose “Reset printing system”. After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Print & Scan preferences is empty.
  3. Repair disk permissions. To fix the file permissions that controls installing printers.
  4. Download and install the following drivers:

MG5300 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (OS X 10.8)

This file is a printer driver for Canon IJ printers.

MG5300 series Mini Master Setup (OS X 10.8)

This file contains the Setup application, MP Drivers

I don't think what you have said is correct but would be happy to be proved wrong.

Checking the default values for the cupsd.conf file, there is no entry that has BrowseAllow as a value, especially near line 23 which is for "Setting the default printer/job policies".

Also, the cupsd.conf is for setting the CUPS scheduler. It has nothing to do with an individual printer. So I doubt it has anything to do with the printer not being recognised.

If the OP was able to post a copy of the cupsd.conf before performing the reset, it would be nice to see what entry has this value that is causing this message in the cups error log. I believe it could be a deprecated value from a previous version of CUPS.
