Q: I bought iPhone 5 but cannot delete iPhone 4S back up because it says it is in use

Help, I bought an iPhone 5 yesterday but cannot back it up to the cloud, because it says there is no room.  I tried deleting the last back up from iPhone 4S but it will  not delete because it says it is in use.

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.3

I don't know about the "can't delete" issue, but as to the storage problem...

The problem could be that you don't have enough storage on the device itself, not on iCloud.  Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available on the device.  Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.

    Also check:

Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud as well.  Tap Show All Apps to get the complete list of apps and MB used for backup storage.

A device needs many MB of storage in order to perform a backup to iCloud.

I'm having the same issue. I bought my phone yesterday, 7/29/13. I called AT&T and they instructed me to call 1800MYAPPLE. You have 90 days, from the date of purchase, of free phone support so don't let them con you into any other protections packages when you call.I'm currently on the phone with them and they've bounced me around a little bit. I would recommend just calling them.

And now they told me that their system is down and they can't help me. I have to call back at a later time. Ugggggggg

a bit of shortsighted statement IMHO.

As far as original problem, you just need to wait 3 days from the start of the restore.

I'm not saying that extra protection is a con, but when I called, they immediately went into a pitch and didn't tell me at first that I had 90 days of free phone support. Someone who is desperate may just go ahead and pay for the package, even if they don't have the means, because they're desperate so I was just cautioning.

What happens after the third day?
