How to tell if a battery is genuine

Hi, I am buying a new battery on eBay as mine states to replace now.

What tips can any one give me to ensure my battery is genuine.

This is the one I am thinking of getting. I also know next to nothing about battery's and how to tell nonsense from fact about then via Internet searches.

Thank you!

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 1st Gen Unibody.

I've bought used MacBooks off of eBay for my family, seven of them so far over the last 6 years. I've bought 8 batteries off of eBay sellers, just going with the cheapest. Only had one with a problem, it gave out after 6 cycles. That one was replaced under the warranty by the seller. The only other batteries that have been a problem were Apple branded batteries that started bulging. I've had two of those happen.

Hi hun, model identifier came up as MacBook 5,1. Sounds like you've had plenty of exp on battery's.

Had my Mac open a few times to replace parts when it's been water damaged etc, just know little to naught of batteries and how they've evolved.

I was looking up this battery, says its compatible with my A1278

I'm just worried of getting screwed or messing up my Mac with 'non genuine' Apple products. Although if the top reply is correct, it does matter. Can you back this up?

Cycle count 894

Apologies, I asked for this because I thought you had already purchased a new battery and had posed the question above.

In any case, when you get a new battery, your FCC (full charge capacity) should be ~5000 maH, and Apple quality batteries are designed to maintain 80% of the original full charge capacity after 300 cycles for your particular Macbook. You will be able to find the FCC in the same location where you provided the information above. You will be able to tell immediately if your battery is good or not. Under average use your battery should last roughly 4.5 hours.
