Intel HD Graphics 5000 supports 3200x2000 resolution!

According to Intel, the new Intel HD Graphics 5000 supports the following:

- Maximum resolution of 3200 x 2000 @ 60 Hz (on the U Processors)

- Maximum resolution of via HDMI 4096 x 2304, 3840x2160 @ 24Hz/24bpp

- DisplayPort 1.2 (aka MiniDisplay Port 1.2)

- HDMI 1.4

Do you think Apple will hopefully release a firmware update that would enable these features?

Now 3200 x 2000 is not 4K Resolution (3840 × 2160), but its better than the currently supported resolution of 2560 x 1600.

I have found this in the Intel website:

DisplayPort* 1.2 / eDP*

H-Processors: 3840 x 2160@60Hz

(Ultra-HD)

U-Processors: 3200 x 2000

@60 Hz, 3840x2160@30Hz

Y-Processors: 2560 x 1600

@ 60 Hz

HDMI* 4096 x 2304, 3840x2160 @ 24Hz / 24bpp

DVI 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz

I doubt that Apple disables the maximum GPU resolution, and I don't think that a firmware update will be released for that. Instead, as you can see, it looks like Y-processors don't support a resolution higher than 2560x1600, so it's possible that the MacBook Air comes with one of those processors

The new MacBook Air 2013's come with:

i5 1.3Ghz (TurboBoost 2.6Ghz) = 4250U

i7 1.7Ghz (TurboBoost 3.3Ghz) = 4650U

It looks like the Intel HD Graphics 5000 can support 4K resolution but at 30Hz instead of 60Hz.

In that case, the maximum resolution is disabled. If you want, you can send this to Apple > http://www.apple.com/feedback If you are a developer, you can send it as a bug > http://bugreport.apple.com

After doing that, you only have to wait until Apple releases an update, if they want. I don't think they have disabled the maximum resolution without a reason
