Imac G3 Bondi Blue

Hi,

I have a Imac G3 Bondi blue rev.A and it use to work gerat until the 4 GB hard drive from 1998 dided. I have a few IDE hard drives laying around and i decited to repalce it. But once i was done and pluged it in it would not turn on. So i thoght that i shod just leave it pluged in for a few days. After 3 days it would not turn on. So i gave it another week and it still wouldn`t start up. so i unpluged it and made sure that all of the connections were tight. All of the connections were tight. And i am not quite sure what is wrong with it it has been pluged in now for about 2 weeks and still no luck. Hope I can fix this 🙂 .

If the iMac had been sitting about disconnected from wall power (the mains) for any lenght of time, the internal backup battery ("PRAM" battery) is surely dead. That can casue startup issues. I'd get a new battery before attempting further troubleshooting. 1/2AA 3.6V lithium.

You can temporarily get around a dead PRAM battery by restarting the computer while doing a "PRAM zap." Hold the key combo command option p r during boot and keep holding until you here a total of three (3) startup chimes, then let go the keys. The chime may be quieter than a normal chime--helps t odo this in a quiet room if possible.

Will the computer boot from a system CD?

When you installed the replacement hard drive, did you set the drive's jumpers to "Master?"

Did you format the drive for Mac. How did you install the OS on the new drive?
