Support Code:300 The printer does not respond

In the last 2 weeks I'm suddenly getting a frequent error message on my MacBook Pro when I try to print to my Canon MX860 printer which I connect to over my WiFi network. This combination has worked flawlessly for several years, but now it suddenly keeps coming up with this "Support Code: 300" error.

I have deleted the printer several times and reinstalled. It will work for 12 hours or less and then I start getting the Support Code: 300 error again.

My notebook PC, sitting right beside my MacBook Pro, continues to print to this same printer with no issue.

Any suggestions?

Al, who is letting us trade in (otherwise) fully working printers with no other strange personality or function flaws? I am well beyond doing that.

My Code 300 is now visiting me literally at least 1x to 3x a day to reset the operation via the menu's on my Canon Pixma MX922 and re-select the specific wifi that is running the strongest at the time (i have a couple of add-on wifi boosters due to my home configuration/layout) - re-acknowledge the password for it, and go through Canon's many "Ok" button presses.

Doing this weekly was one thing. Multiple times daily on busy printing days for timelines - NO. NO. NO.

BTW...I've found literally nothing as helpful on any of Canon's own sites or Forums - the Apple one is actually more helpful.

Anyway - I've collected the budget for some form of an iPrinter capacity printer. People - please advise if you know of trade-in's. I'm up for that.

I am now having this problem!

I have tried:

- Switching off wi-fi and on again

- Disconnecting printer in System Preferences

- Replacing the magenta which was low

- Switching off printer and back on again

Now, when I try to reconnect the printer in System Preferences using the + button, the only thing that comes up is the Canon MP640 but as a 'Bonjour Scanner' not as a printer!

Does anyone have any suggestions before I throw it out of the window?

Thanks!

It's not the printer's fault. If you look through this discussion, you'll see that lots of different printers run into this problem. I suggest trying some of the suggestions listed here. I think all I did was delete and re-activate the printer. I have not had this problem in a long time so it's possible that one of Apple's printer driver updates fixed the issue.

You're welcome for the community.

Strange how things happen. I hadn't had the problem in a long time either and then it hit a few days ago. First time under High Sierra. I'm using a Canon MX922. I tried various suggestions, mine and others'. I tried deleting an re-activating, resetting the printer system, reloading the Canon drivers, and reloading the latest Apple Canon drivers. I believe that part of the problem is that the old printer stays around even if you delete it from the Printers & Scanners list. I'd get the printer attached but I couldn't get it to use the Canon drivers. Canon's drivers have a lot more print options than Apple's.

What finally worked was to clear everything out, go into Preview, load a document, and click Print. Then under the Printer drop down is an Add Printer option. I selected that and I could see the different types of printer available. There are entries for both Bonjour Multifunction and Canon IJ Network. I chose the Canon IJ Network option and got the printer drivers I wanted. It's quite possible that this was suggested previously somewhere in this thread. Now I have to remember this for next time.

Yes it does work correctly if I connect via USB. It sporatically works correctly over the WiFi network, once I've deleted the printer and re-installed, but then usually over-night it goes back to giving me the "Support Code:300" error message.

I can't seem to find anything to indicate what this Support Code:300 error indicates. The printer is not busy and is on-line since other computers are able to print to it.

Thanks.

The support code would only be meaningful to Canon support. Since the problem is intermittent, it most likely has something to do with network conditions. Turn off all wireless devices except the Mac, the printer, and the router, and try to eliminate other possible sources of interference:

Test.

My problem is still occurring. It appears to me to be something created by an Apple update. It's hard to make updates and verify that they don't create some problem on older hardware.

This is really too bad because my MX860 is a really good, and low cost printer.

I've tried a lot of things so far but nothing that seems to keep the printer working longer than 24 hours, and it goes back to the "Support Code:300" which I'm pretty sure is an Apple code.

Here's what fixed my problem:

After reading some stuff online, I learned that if it's been a while since you last printed something, an ink cartridge may be empty but not trigger a 'replace' message. In fact, the ink level display will look fine and not indicate that the ink is low.

I manually opened up the printer to check on the ink cartridge levels and to my surprise, my yellow was out of ink. After I popped in a new yellow cartridge, I got no more error message and was able to print through wifi again.

Thanks for quick reply. Checked ink levels as recommended and replaced two low cartridges. Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. I have 4 macs at home and previously I have been able to print from any of them over wifi to this printer for years without incident, even when some cartridges were low or empty. Now I am suddenly unable to print from any of them.
