Q: Support Code:300 The printer does not respond

In the last 2 weeks I'm suddenly getting a frequent error message on my MacBook Pro when I try to print to my Canon MX860 printer which I connect to over my WiFi network.  This combination has worked flawlessly for several years, but now it suddenly keeps coming up with this "Support Code: 300" error.

I have deleted the printer several times and reinstalled.  It will work for 12 hours or less and then I start getting the Support Code: 300 error again.

My notebook PC, sitting right beside my MacBook Pro, continues to print to this same printer with no issue.

Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

How did you add your printer manually? I deleted it and now I can't find it. Please help

To ellis28 - have you tried unplugging the printer (for at least 10 seconds) and plugging it back in? That cleared Support Code 300 for me --  however, this just happened and I haven't tested it over a period of days. Turning the printer (Canon MX870) on and off did not re-set it, but unplugging it did so I'll see how it goes from here.

I, too, did an update and got this same Support Code 300 error and tried what Tbannor suggested, but could not manually add printer and my computer did not search for it.  I had to insert the original disc and add the computer back into the system and now it works..hopefully, forever....hope this helps dhunter910 bc it's very frustrating..had to print homework out for my daughter and took me about 6 hours to get this done!

I spent most of Sunday trying to get rid of the Support Code 300 on my MX870. When I deleted the printer and went to reinstall it, there was no recognition that I owned such a machine. I had to go through the Wireless Lan Setup again. What finally got rid of my code was changing out a cartridge that was empty, I had also not recieved any indication that I needed to do that; thanks to a previous reply I knew that was one solution.

Hello! I am dealing with the same issue. Cutting things off and back on, jiggling the cartridges, etc... had been working until today. I deleted the printer from my Mac, but it won't "find" it now. I don't have a clue what to type in to help it add it now, and I'm rather panicked. Can someone please help me? I'm not very good at this type of thing.

    jijibar,

Don't panic...lol.  It is easy to correct.  First, click on system preferences, then printer and scanners.  When the printer boxes opens, check to see if your printer is listed.  If not, then turn off your printer, wait a couple minutes and then turn it back on.  Now click the + button on the bottom left of the box.  This will add the printer to your computer.  Give the printer a couple minutes to connect to your mac.  My printer will generally show 2 type of drivers - one will say bonjour after the printer name and then second just the name.  Choose the non-bonjour printer and then hit the add button.  Re-send what you are trying to print and this should correct it...until it happens again.  Mine does this occasionally - not sure why.

    Hope this works for you!!

I've been having this issue on several Macs lately, then I realized that I recently updated the printer drivers from the update tab on the App store and that is when I started receiving the error 300. Reinstalling the drivers fron Canon's site will do the trick (at least it did for me). Give it a try.

I also was having this error message every time I tried to print.  I reverted back to the drivers from the Canon website and my MP620 started printing again.  Thanks for the great tip.  Others should try this first.

I would get a 300 error when I tried to print a pdf using Adobe Reader on a Mac over my wifi network to a Canon MX860.  From then on I would get the same error message and would be unable to print any type of document from any other device (pc, iPad, iPhone, Nexus, etc) until I cleared the print queue and then power cycled both the printer and my wifi router.  Through a process of elimination I have discovered that the error only occurs when I try to print from Adobe Reader and, surprisingly, from either my pc or my Mac.  I found that if I use any other program to print a pdf I never have a problem.

This solution has worked for me for about 3 months now.  It would be nice to know whether the issue lies with Adobe or Canon and whether anyone has gotten either of them to stop fingerpointing and actually work together to solve this.

The Support Code 300 error just appeared with my Canon MX870. Here's how I fixed it. Go to Print and Scan in System Preferences. The printer should appear in the list at top left. Highlight it and delete it by hitting the "-" button at bottom left. After confirming the delete, hit the "+" button. When the Mac finds the printer, add it. Try printing, it should work now. I had to do this a year or so ago too for a similiar communication problem. It's worked both times.

This worked for me. Deleted the current MX350 and reinstalled it.

Removing and adding back the printer worked for me also. The issue started after installing the update via App Store.
