Syncing my iPod

I have my iPhone already on my laptop itunes to put music ect on it, but when I plug my iPod into my laptop to sync the music onto that nothing happens? This is probably a simple problem but what will make it work

Does iTunes see the iPod?

Was the iPod previously synced to another computer/iTunes library?

Do you have the right boxes checked?

iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod

If previously synced to another library you can only copy music and videos using the manual syncing method.
