I am going to college and I want to wipe my computer clean of all the junk that is on it but I do not want to delete my music or my photos. How do I go about wiping my computer clean? and should I just put my music and photos onto some flash drives?

You better save any data you value as "clean" means that everything is erased and replaced by a new system installation.
Save your stuff to another thumb drive, DVD, or an external drive with a clone of the hard drive. The last is the best way as you have a bootable drive identical to the original.
Then use recovery (or install disk if prior to 10.7) to reinstall the Mac OS.
Hopefully you are using Lion or Mountain Lion AND TimeMachine.
