About 50 meters, or a little over 150 feet......assuming that there are no obstuctions in the signal path between the AirPort Extreme and wireless device.
But it is not possible to tell you what the range of the AirPort Extreme might be in your home since there are so many variables involved.
Each wall in a typical home will absorb anywhere from 10-20% of the wireless signal. A ceiling will absorb even more of the signal since it is thicker. Heavy furniture, large mirrors and other things may also really cut down on the signal strength.
As an example, I cannot get a useable signal here if the wireless signal must pass through four walls.....even though the distance might be only 10 meters or a bit over 30 feet.
Other wireless networks around you and cordless phones can also affect the range that the wireless signal will travel.
The bottom line here is that you will not know what the range of the AirPort Extreme will be in your home until you try it out in your home. For that reason, if you are considering the purchase of a new AirPort Extreme it might be wise to understand the store's return policy before you buy.
This was useful. Thanks!. I just ordered an Airport Extreme and will be installing it in my basement. It's on top of a high bookshelf near the ceiling and just about in the middle of our home. We're going to need range up to 2nd floor bedrooms which we have now with our old Linksys router. I may have to add an extender, we shall see.
I think that you will be fine with 2.4 Ghz band, the 5 Ghz band only works within one room, do not expect the signal to extend beyond the wall. I have the newest Airport Extreme and for my iMac whichs shares the same office as the extreme, great performance. I have a MacBook Air, lastest generation, on the floor above and by channel 5 performance is poor.
I buy Apple products for reliability you may improve your performance with other vendors but I appreciate relability.
Well. I replaced an old Linksys WRT300N with an Airport Extreme today. SpeedTest went from 20mbps DL to 55 mbps DL from Windows laptop and iPhone 5. I guess my old router was the bottle neck (it's a bit long in the tooth). I'll be testing other devices and range as well. Very glad I've "upgraded"!
