Can't restore iPhone 4 (Error 4014)

Worked for me after a long day of hassle. But only to get the phone back to IOS7 where i started from.

any other solutions? still stuck with error 4014

create new user account on computer - administrator.

open itunes

connect usb to computer but not on phone

power off iphone

hold the home button and connect cable to phone - kepp holdong home until you see the itunes icon on iphone screen

- once on computer screen , you will see that iphone is in recovery mode , let go of home button

- click restore on computer screen

- set up the iphone as new - do not restore from itunes backu up or icloud-

- after you set up as new and on home screen on iphone - then restore from back up

1 Check your Host file by going to gs.apple.com in you computers browser.

2 if you see a TSS or Cydia page you need to clean your host file until you see this page.

3 make sure your iTunes is up to date.

4 Enter DFU Mode

Do not use any jailbreak tools to enter DFU Mode ( that would be Pwned DFU ), all you should have open is iTunes and follow these steps.

EASY DFU: Plug device into computer via USB. Don't look at the device, concentrate on the counting. Hold home+power for 10 seconds, then release power but keep holding home for 12 more seconds. Screen should be black

5 open iTunes and just hit " restore iPhone "

Do NOT try and restore any 6.x IPSW's just hit " Restore iPhone " and let iTunes download the newest IPSW ( 7.0.2 ) ATM or it will fail..

If you try all of those and still can't get your iPhone recovered, I suggest you to use Myjad iTunes Backup Extractor first to restore important information to your PC local .

This error is the result of iTunes not receiving a complete APticket. It generally happence when the device is being rerouted to an alternate sever for signing and the NONCE doesnt match. Check hosts file for any entries containing gs.apple.com and delete them. Then plug in your phone and click restore. Let it do its thing and you should be good.

Have any of you been told that it is a h/w issue. I had complete failure of my IPAD 2 about 1 week after installing IOS 7.0.2 and started receiving this error from iTunes when I would try to restore. I have called in for service and after about an hour of trying new processes we were unable to identify the problem so it was suggested to take it into an Apple store. After taking it to an apple store this past weekend the GENIUS rep ran the restore on my ipad and atleast received some response from it, but the restore failed resulting in the same error. The rep then claimed it was a hardware failure and I would need to replace the IPAD at discounted fee. Not feeling as if it is a hardware issue I am still dealing with the issue and working with a Sr. Advisor now and hopefully we can resolve the issue. May have a response for you tomorrow. I just find it funny how the s/w can identify the error but no one really knows what the error is.

Did you solve that? I've got the same problem with my iPad 2.

Error 4014 (or 4013) is usually associated with a hardware problem – a faulty cable, a faulty port etc. On the surface, your iPhone connects to the computer, iTunes recognizes the device but somewhere down the line, iTunes thinks that the cable is not really that good. Or may be the port isn’t.

The first thing you try should be change the USB port to which you connect the iPhone. Next up, change the cable that you use. Arguably, this has worked not for everyone but for a few people.

As an extreme measure, you can also try updating from some other computer which has the latest iTunes installed.

Backing Up and Going Into Recovery Mode

If you are trying to update the firmware without doing a clean restore but running into this error (even after changing the cables), it’s time to cut the chase. This method is usually recommended as the last-thing-to-try but I think it’s easier to get this done with right away.

• Connect your iPhone to the computer. Fire up iTunes.
• Backup your iPhone.
• Now disconnect the iPhone, quit iTunes.
• Put the iPhone in recovery mode. The short version goes like this: press and hold power and home buttons till the screen goes blank.
• Open iTunes on PC.
• Connect the iPhone. iTunes should indicate (through a dialog box) that an iPhone is detected in recovery mode.
• Now go ahead and restore the device as new. This will erase everything but you will have the backup to restore from.

Error 4014 and 4016

Here is what's happen i just had been told that friend got this problem and i like to beta-tsting the ****** things i try all at my own.

So first i try to delete host GS in /etc folder but hosts were mark as # so not useful.

In i-tune i sow my pad still keeps 6.1.3 curren version so i decided to force get out of powned DFU mode - sense for me HOW I DID IT : just hold power buton and home for 15 sec -> counting till 12 my idevice start with no problem.

Its works for my device if i have time i will try again something else \;0

I've found a fix, I deleted everything apple related on my computer and deleted all the apple stuff in my hosts file and i reinstalled itunes and it worked for me

I had an iPad Air that came up with Error 4014 when restoring. After a few tries we unplugged the chord on both ends, plugged it back in and Voila!. So try that.

I'm having the same pronlem as well. Mine is iphone5. Do you managed to solve the problem?

Hey there i just found a solution for an error as 4014:

All you need to do is just remove apple servers from C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc ....

and your iPhone will be back 🙂

and also we should let the itunes download the whole firmware and wait untill it installs in to the iphone.

Hi there, i got the same error after the iphone shut down it self and went to recovery mode (dfu - blank screen) i tried many things like changing the dock conector, restore with parts plug and unplug (screen, home button, etc) in the end, i got it back to life, just holding power + home buttons for 6 sec, and then i released the home button, and thats it, it came back to life!!!
