How do I connect to an OpenVPN server via another OpenVPN connection?

Hello,

I have two OpenVPN connections that I would like to connect through each other. These connections show up as two tun devices.

I have heard that I will need to change the routing tables or pass --route in the OpenVPN configuration file. How do I set this up?

I am currently using Tunnelblick 3.3 and OS X 10.8.4

P.S.: I do not want to use a VM.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

On the server, you would have to enable IP forwarding (as root):

sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1

and push the appropriate routes to the clients in your OpenVPN configuration. See the OpenVPN documentation for instructions.

The thing is I don't have access to the server. Apparently the routes can be configured locally, I just don't know how.

It won't work unless the server is configured to forward packets from one VPN to the other. You can't do that on the clients.
