Why doesn't iMessage sort chronologically??

I've noticed that when I open up iMessage on my Macbook Air, the messages that get copied from my phone aren't inchronological order. For example in some cases, my most recent response to someon will be listed way earlier instead of being the latest line of text. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do to solve it?

My guess is that there's some sort of syncing issue but then again, if that were the case, I wouldn't have those text discussions even listed, right?
