Deleting a picture from iPhoto

I deleted a photo from iPhoto, but it stills shows up in the same file when i am looking for photos to change the desktop background. I check again in iPhoto to see if it is there, but it isnt. so how do I get rid of the photo.

Rebuild the Spotlightindex. If you try to search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, a pulsing dot will appear in the icon. When the dot disappears, the indexing is complete.

In the Finder, hold down the option key and select

Go Library

from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:

Caches/com.apple.systempreferences

Launch System Preferences and test.
