how to format a memory stick on a mac

I have put pictures on my memory stick and copied them on to my mac but now want to clear them off the memory stick so would like to know how this is done on a mac.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Drag them to the Trash and empty it, or use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to erase the stick.

I know that sometimes dragging them into the trash does not empty it properly

If that doesn't work, post back and say exactly what happened, or use the Disk Utility to erase the stick. If you're deleting files because they contain sensitive content and not just to free up space, securely empty the Trash.
