Q: My airport utility does not recognize my base station

I have an old base station that stopped fubctioning a coupe weeks ago. I basically use it solely to stream music from iTunes to my stereo. iTunes no longer gives me the option of choosing my output device. Whne I try using the airport utility it tells me this version of the utility no longer supports my device.

I am running an OS X 10.8.4 I have a 27" Imac mid 2010.

Unfortunately, AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion 10.8.4 no longer supports the older A1084 version of the AirPort Express.

If you have another Mac there running Leopard, or Snow Leopard, or even a PC, you could likely use that to administer the A1084 device.

Is that a possibility?

Have you tried resetting the AirPort Express? If you do reset it to its factory default, you will need to reconfigure for streaming. Please check out the following Apple Support article for details on how to do so.

It sounds like you may have an older version of the AirPort Express.

Please look on the side of the device in the faint print to locate the model number. It will start with an "A" followed by four numbers......as in A x x x x.

If you could post back with that information, we will know more about how to answer your question.

Once I learned there was probably nothing to be done through the utility I did the hard factory reset and was able to reconfigure using an older Mac I have in another part of the house. I am able to stream to my stereo from my all my devices. Problem Solved! Thanks to both of your for the help.
