I am having problems when I connect my ipod classic 120gb to my car. It just sounds like hissing. When I attach my headphones it works great. Tried what was mentioned in this post but still same problem.
Put the classic in disk mode. Connect to your computer. Change your folder options in Windows Explorer to display hidden and system files and folders. Delete everything from the iPod's hard drive. Disconnect & reset it.

thanks ... I will try it
Weird, if you had tried what is in this thread you'd have deleted all the contents from the device, and you wouldn't have any tracks to play at all. 😕
If you're attaching the device via the docking port then there may be a problem with the device, the connecting cable or the car's stereo system. You'll need to try alternate components to identify which is at fault.

Well in order to test if the problem still persist after following your steps, you have to put songs back on it. Lol thus putting some type of folder or data back on it. Tried 3 other ipods and they work fine. Definitely isolated to the current ipod classic. Just hope someone had this problem or knowledge to help me.
Does it connect to the car using the docking port? Have you tried cleaning out with canned air? If restoring the device hasn't fixed it then it isn't likely to be a software problem.

Now we are talking. It is using a dock and I didnt try canned air. If it is a software problem, what could I do about that?
The DFU Restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic should ensure device is as it should be software wise, but I doubt a software problem would/could corrupt only the dock output.
