Hello Magician,

I woudl recommend a couple of things here.

First this part of the article named Your Mac won't start up in Mac OS X found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1411.

  1. Disconnect all peripheral devices, except for the Apple keyboard and mouse. This includes ADB, serial, USB, FireWire, SCSI, and PCMCIA devices. If this resolves the issue, connect one device at a time, restarting after each one, until you've determined which device is causing the issue.
  2. Remove third-party hardware upgrades such as memory (RAM), microprocessor upgrade cards, and PCI cards. If this resolves the issue, add back one item at a time, restarting after each one, to isolate the issue. Note:Apple does not provide technical support for Mac OS X when used with third-party microprocessor upgrade cards.
  3. Start up from your Mac OS X installation disc and check the hard disk with Disk Utility or, if necessary, fsck.
  4. If you are comfortable doing so, reset your computer's Power Management Unit. Specific directions are available elsewhere in the Knowledge Base.

Here is the article to reset your PMU/SMC mentioned in step 4

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

Also I would suggest resetting your PRAM if needed:

About NVRAM and PRAM

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.

Regards,

Sterling
