Q: a lot of password reset requests that I am not requesting

I whave been getting a lot of requests to resetmy password on for my Apple ID that I have not been requsting myself.  Is the only way to fix this is to change the email address that is part of my apple id account or is there something else I can do?

If they have any sort of link in the message, it's almost certainly one of the phishing messages making the rounds. Using a spam block or changing your email address will be the only way to stop them. Make sure that your password for your Apple ID and your security questions are difficult to guess or look up, though; you might want to change them yourself as a precaution, though do not click on any links in any email you may have received.
