Any help welcome. My daughter bought a used MacBook-believe 2007. Battery is at 0% and it says it's not charging. Any ideas other than needing a new battery?

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you are running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion), then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information from the top of the page back here.

I have the same /similar problem. The majority of the time when i plug the charger in the mac screen brightness increases and the battery icon shows the plug symbol, i.e. it has recognized the charger. I also have 2 chargers with the same problem...On occassion if the macbook air (late 2009 model) is connected to the power supply prior to booting up it will charge, i get the charging light, lighting bolt symbol in the battery and battery definetly charges, however as soon as the magsafe is disconnected and reconnected, no light, plug symbol comes back etc.
